RoBox Summer Camp
This was the second year that I've done this camp for kids!
This year we had 14 kids between the ages of 8 and 12 and
had a great time.
The camp is structured into a week-long, 8:30am to 5pm day,
with two main goals:
- Have FUN with STEM & robots
- Have SUCCESS with STEM & robots
labelRoBox Robot
My Roles & Responsibilities
My roles included:
- Lead Counselor - I was responsible for the day-to-day operations of the camp, as well as organizing the other counselors' activities. I kept the day moving and kept the kids engaged (as much as possible). One of my specific duties as lead counselor was to run the end-of-the-day Simon Says!
- Curriculum Design - The "curriculum" for the campers included both play time and work time. And in most cases, we made tried to make the "work time" feel like play. I was responsible for much of the curriculum, concentrating mostly on the software. This included programming of the RoBox, and also fun exercises with online resources that taught the basics of programming. I was also responsible for creating the end-of-week "olympics" that gave the kids the opportunity to compete with each other, and show-off their creations to their parents.
- Counselor - I also had the role of "normal counselor", meaning that I worked directly with the kids helping them to accomplish the goals we set out for them.
